Our road to Net Zero

Just half a mile from the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, the impact of climate change is close to our home.

Businesses and consumers alike are more aware than ever of the environmental impacts of their actions, the services they use and the goods they consume. As a manufacturer to supply chains that provide end goods globally, to purchasers domestic and commercial, Bay Engineering are taking action to become a sustainable supplier.

Our immediate changes are to reduce non-renewable energy use, monitor our current carbon footprint and reduce our facilities power consumption.

Use of Renewable Energy

Solar Panels

We have had an extensive installation of 108 solar PV modules to our roof capable of generating 44.2kWp output. Starting in Q1 2023, this will be connected to our main supply. We're hoping to achieve a 33% reduction on our National Grid power usage.

Zero-carbon Electricity Tariff

For our National Grid supplied electricity, we have changed to a provider and tariff that provides power that is certifiably matched with renewable and nuclear energy.

Monitoring

CBN Expert Professional

We have recorded our baseline metrics for electricity and fossil fuel usage in CBN Expert Professional. Subscribing to CBN Expert creates an ongoing way for us to measure our carbon footprint. We will be reviewing our findings as footprint reduction steps are taken to ensure their effectiveness.

Additional Metrics

By Q2 2023 we’ll be augmenting our electricity and fossil fuel usage records with water and material waste. In addition to this will be the introduction staff surveys to contribute data collection regarding Scope 3 activities.

Reduction in Power Usage

Voltage Optimisation

In joint efforts with our primary electrical contractor, G.J. Owens Electrical Contractors, we’re evaluating the use of controlled voltage reduction on our grid supplied energy.

IT and Network Infrastructure

We utilise IT extensively at Bay Engineering in our day-to-day operation. Building upon a decade of paper reduction effort, we're changing the way we handle the tracing of our 'goods in'. Our bespoke production software is being upgraded to replace our current 'goods in' paper check sheets and digital capture of associated materials certification.

We're having an independent audit performed on our entire IT infrastructure to identify where power usage for our existing equipment can be reduced and redundant equipment removed.
